Cold vs Hot Water Shower

Simplest confusion, .......

Shower--

How many times a day........

At what time................

Cold shower Or Hot Shower.........?

Let’s break it down and try to understand....

How many times one should shower and why?

·         Ideally, everyone must take a bath every single day.  The main reason for that is to maintain personal hygiene. Taking shower will remove the dead skin cells, dirt and soil from the body that will decrease the chances of skin infection and inflammation. Also, if there is any cut on the skin surface, because of removal of bacteria and infective material from it after bathing, it will heal faster.

When to shower......

·         Logically, one should be presentable throughout the day as in school, college or workplace, for that he needs to bath in the morning. But those whose work demand too much physical exertion, after which they get sweaty; they need to shower at night also.... Even medical professionals should take bath after they return home from their clinic to stay germ free.........

·         Getting shower before 1-2 hours of going to bed will relieve stress from the body and will give good night’s sleep especially by hot water.

Cold water or Hot.......

That’s where the debate starts...

Let’s see.....

According to a scientific law, Cold contracts and Heat expands....

When we bath with the help of cold water, blood vessels of our skin will get contracted; so the blood supply to the skin will decrease, which will be directed to other organs. This will result in heart pumping more oxygen to internal organs; because the amount of oxygen will remain same but the organs supplied will decrease, which will direct more oxygen to important organs. This will improve their ability to function.

Conversely, hot water bath will increase the core body temperature. This will relax the muscles and relieves the tension and soothes us. Also, the blood circulation to the body will increase which will help it to heal better.

Advantages of Cold Water Bath:--

1.       Reduces the Inflammation:   Inflammation decreases at low temperature.  So, soreness of the muscle and swelling in the body will decrease. Due to that, athletes, after strenuous workout, take ice bath.

2.       Glowing hair and skin: Both of these are made up of protein, which will degenerate at higher temperature. Also, cold water will help in retaining the moisture of the skin. Due to that itchiness of the skin and dandruff issue will get cured.

3.       Alertness increase: Soaking in cold water is a mild shock to the body that will awaken the person and make him breathe deeper. Due to that O2 concentration in the body will increase so will the concentration power.

4.       Helps in weight loss: Studies have concluded that in the situation like cold shower, the body will burn brown fat that is located in neck and shoulder area, to generate heat.  What’s more, cold bath will boost the metabolism.

5.       Improve body’s immune response: Regular cold water bath will increase WBC (White Blood Cells) in the blood that will help fight against the infection.

Benefits of Hot Water Bath:-

  1. Muscle Relaxation: Due to elevation of whole body temperature, muscles will get more blood supply that will help loosen up the body.
  2. Better sleep: Because the blood supply will be diverted to the skin as a result of warm water bath, body will lose the heat. Due to that, the core body temperature comes down after 1-2 hours. Also, warm bath will activate parasympathetic nervous system. Both will facilitate the body to slip into slumber.
  3. Relieve the symptoms of common cold: Warm water acts as a moisturizer for the nasal passage. So, person suffering from common cough and cold can easily get better.
  4. Reduces the frequency of headache: Most of the headaches are due to constriction of the blood vessels of head. As warm water will cause its dilatation, headaches will become less frequent.
  5. Help lower the blood pressure: Hot showers can lower the blood pressure by redistributing the blood in all parts of the body.
After going through the merits of Cold and Warm water bath, it is up to you to decide, which one to go for.....!
