Music therapy basics with videos: Unknown ,but beneficial......

Have you ever heard patients of Depression are being treated with Alpha wave music therapy?

I’m sure you did.

But, do you know what Alpha wave music therapy is?

Even I didn’t before I joined Med School, Yes I’m Doctor and hence, qualified to teach you about Music therapy...

By now, you must have guessed the topic of today’s article...

Music therapy.

Let’s start learning...

Since decades, it’s been used to cure patients, but got documented in literature just few decades back...

To understand Music therapy from Scratch, we need to understand the Brain Waves first...

Brain Waves: -

Our brain has electrical activity going on in it, Yes really!

Brain waves

There are 5 types of waves in this electrical activity ...  Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Theta and Delta.

Different wave patterns are seen in different situations like Alpha waves in Deep sleep and Beta waves during active problem solving...

With the use of external music, we can tune in the frequency of our brain and can achieve the desired outcome – Delta wave frequency for pain relief.

Disclaimer : All the music videos embedded below are from the YouTube channel run by a team of Doctors – that I confirmed before recommending to my readers.

Below listed are the benefits of different wave forms and the music videos that will help person achieve this state...

Delta wave – It has anti-aging and pain- relief benefits...  So, the frequency of (0.1-4Hz) is beneficial for those in deep pain and seeking to reverse the changes related to aging.

Beta wave – It will help in problem solving and improving focus, while performing any task. 13-30 Hz frequency is used for that purpose.

Gamma wave – Improves memory recalling power and peaks the awareness level...  (30Hz or above) frequency is used for that purpose.

Theta Wave – Enhance the creativity and helps focus better in meditation. (4-8 Hz) frequency is used for that purpose.

Alpha wave – Listening to it will help in positive thinking and stress reduction.  (8-13 Hz) is used for these benefits...

Binaural music beats is another trend in the music industry, which means that you listen to the music of different frequency that are tuned together....

When you listen to it, the final frequency your brain listens will be the difference of the frequency between those two music beats...

For example, two musical beats of 190 Hz and 195 Hz are mixed together; so, the inferior colliculus (the part of the brain that will gather the auditory input) will perceive it as 5 Hz – Theta wave zone, relaxing and meditating zone.

This is used frequently in the therapeutic music...

Those who make music frequency of this kind is called music therapists – professionally certified in music therapy for medical purpose...

This therapy gains popularity because it could be implemented at any place and it doesn’t have any side effects...

Example: - After stroke, patients have difficulty in speaking; so, to improve the fluency and the production of speech, singing can help.

The best part is, one can use another person’s music prescriptions for the same benefits and it’s free.....

So, that’s all about music therapy...
